Axel: Art & Bullshit

I draw pictures, often on many different sheets of paper and then I flip those pieces of paper fast enough so you think the pictures are moving. Also I like cats, enough to pretend to be some monstrous cat-man online.

Young British Muslims tell the Islamic State: #NotInMyName

There’s a new trend taking over the social media pages of young British Muslims, and it’s targeted right at the Islamic State.

As Mic has previously reported, there’s something troubling about calling this terrorist group the “Islamic State,” since they do not accurately represent Islam or Islamic beliefs, but a twisted and perverted interpretation of the global religion.

So to combat this, young activists, led by Britain’s Active Change charity, are telling the terrorists to stop acting under the banner of Islam by circulating the hashtag #NotInMyName and calling out the group for “hiding behind a false Islam.”

The message is clear | Follow micdotcom

A spokesman for the Islamic State was bewildered as he offered the international community an official statement. During a conference in Mosul, the badly shaken man stepped up to the microphone and unfurled a written note. Through stutters and while choking back tears he began in Arabic, which was promptly translated by an London born jihadi who repeated it in english:

"This morning we went onto twitter and saw people from across the world holding hashtags in pictures decrying us. At that moment our resolve shattered and we realized just how wrong we were. All it took was westerners on social media to show us the light. Today I am happy to announce that we are relinquishing all held territory and surrendering ourselves to the proper authorities."

I doubt the IS warriors are beheading journalists and mass executing shiites in the name of some 18 year old in Birmingham, England.

A better hashtag would be #NotInMohammedsName but what are you gonna do. These are millennials after all lol

I don’t think they are necessarily thinking that they are doing this to stop ISIS. Honestly I think they are trying to keep the conflict from being “ISLAM AGAINST THE WORLD” because every single time a group even remotely associated with the religion does something, the western media often goes “but where are these so-called moderate Muslims decrying this behavior?”. They are trying to fight a media narrative, not ISIS directly.

EARTHBOUND, USA - DOCUMENTARY
The Benson Bros. are creating a documentary about EarthBound fans in North America.

For a year now, Jeff Benson has been working with Fangamer.net to interview MOTHER fans, Starmen.Net users, and members of the EarthBound team in an attempt to document the space between a bunch of kids coming together on a message board and the reemergence of a cult classic—not to mention the formation of Fangamer, the business Starmen.Net played a major role in founding.
The documentary is called EarthBound USA, and it’s about how EB fans have struggled to popularize the Mother series in North America since the 1990’s.
Jeffrey Benson recently went to Japan to interview the creator of the MOTHER series, Shigesato Itoi, about his overseas fans. What transpired was strange, beautiful, and fascinating.
“Just finished an interview with some American MOTHER 2 fans who came to see me. Some of them were in elementary school when they played it but are now married with children, and still have a love for the game to this day. I’ve had all sorts of projects in my time, but this game is definitely in a league of its own." - @Itoi_shigesato
From 1995 to 2008 Robbie and Jeff Benson made the YouTube series EB SAGA, which was inspired by EarthBound. The videos were popular on Starmen.net, and eventually led to Jeff’s work at Fangamer.
Robbie Benson heads the video game funk & soul band Super Soul Bros. Robbie will be composing the original soundtrack for the documentary.
Fangamer.net is launching a Kickstarter for the film later this year. We hope to release the documentary in 2015.
More info as this projects develops.

Someone’s probably in love with you right now, even though you think you’re boring and stupid and smell bad most of the time, someone probably saw you last week and wiped their sweaty hands on the insides of their pockets and thought about your body under your…

I don’t see how that changes my assessment.

Psychologists have found that people’s belief in a just world helps explain how they react to innocent victims of negative life circumstances. People become cognitively frustrated when presented with stories of victims who suffer through little fault of their own. They can deal with this frustration in two ways: they can conclude that the world is an unjust place, or they can decide that the victim is somehow to blame. Most people reconcile their psychological distress by blaming the victim. Even when we know that suffering is undeserved, it is psychologically easier to blame the victim rather than give up the idea that the world is basically fair.

Urbance is literally about forbidden hetero romance in a land where everyone is gay. evil gay overlords stoppin the hetero. the designs are gorgeous but be aware of what you’re potentially funding. Not saying funding it is that black and white either -it’s nice to see a cast that is primarily black, for instance, but every time Urbance info goes around I end up seeing people get disappointed when they learn the premise.

Wait, the fuck? Dang I reblogged it because it had neat design pics and this is the premise? Jesus.

Woah, gettin that realtime sword and sworcery vibe

I’d love a game that used this aesthetic for magic effects, just as a contrast to the usual style.

Nope. I am very certain that’s not happening.
